Planning to book a Renault Kiger? Well, chances are that you’ll pay more than you would have earlier. Why? That’s because nine out of the twelve variants available now cost more. So, depending on the variant chosen, you’d either pay the same as before or up to Rs 30,000 more. Confused? This table clears the air:

Prices for the petrol-MT variants have increased by up to Rs 20,000, whereas those with a petrol-AMT powertrain now cost up to Rs 25,000 more. The steepest price hike comes for derivatives with the turbo-petrol engine mated to the 5-speed manual transmission. That powertrain in RXT trim receives the most significant upward revision. The entry-level RXE variant and those equipped with a CVT retain their launch prices.

Even with that revised price list, the Renault Kiger remains one of the most competitively priced SUVs in its segment. And those who want a dual-tone finish can have it in all the variants. All they have to do is pay an additional Rs 20,000 more. Earlier, that figure was Rs 17,000.

Renault launched the Kiger in February this year. The subcompact SUV is available with four different engine-transmission combinations. The range starts with the 1.0-litre petrol engine (71bhp/96Nm), which is on offer with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Those who want a bit more kick in the mix will settle for the turbocharged version of the same engine. That produces 99bhp/160Nm with the 5-speed manual gearbox and 99bhp/152Nm with the CVT.

The Kiger offers quite a lot of features for what it costs. The list includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster, push-button start/stop and LED-powered headlamps. Renault also offers five pre-configured packages – Smart, Smart+, SUV, Attractive and Essential. Opting for those will bring in extra stuff such as ambient lighting, wireless mobile charger, front parking sensors, front skid plate, puddle lamp and air purifier.

In India, the Kiger competes with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V, Nissan Magnite, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra XUV300.
