We’ve witnessed a flurry of product introductions over the past few weeks. And it was all on the cards. Why? The festive cheer is in the air, and carmakers want to make the most of it. The latest to join the list is Toyota with this – the Innova Crysta Limited Edition. Based on the GX trim level, it is available in multiple variants. Here’s the price list:
Now, if you compare any of those figures with standard GX variants, you’ll find no difference. And that is the real trick here. In Limited Edition form, the Innova Crysta offers more features without asking for a premium, and there’s the undeniable exclusivity factor. As the name suggests, the newcomer is available in limited numbers. In fact, the dealers will fit all the additional equipment it offers over and above the standard car.
The extra features include a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, tyre pressure monitoring system, wireless mobile charger, door edge lighting and an air ionizer. And for that extra zing, Toyota has thrown in an Aero Kit as well. That, by the looks of things, changes the lower ends of the front and rear bumpers. However, the rest of the kit remains unaltered. That means features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available.
Unsurprisingly, the powertrains are the same as well. The 2.7-litre petrol engine pumps out 164bhp/245Nm, whereas the 2.4-litre diesel generates 148bhp/343Nm (360Nm with AT). By default, both those powerplants come coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, you can have them with a 6-speed torque converter as well.
For Toyota, the Innova has been a monumental success in India. Over 9 lakh units have found takers to date since the first-gen model went on sale in 2005. Keeping the price bracket in consideration, the Innova Crysta doesn’t have a direct rival. But, there are alternatives at either end – Mahindra Marazzo (a pocket-friendly option) and the Kia Carnival (costs more but towers above the Toyota in terms of space, features and performance).
