Ford shelved the automatic transmission option for the Figo along with the 1.5-litre petrol engine. Without a two-pedal setup in its portfolio, the Figo was always going to be at the backfoot. Now, however, it can play on the attack. Why? Because the option of a proper automatic gearbox is back. There are two variants available – Titanium and Titanium+. In the former form, the Figo AT wears a price tag of Rs 7.75 lakh. Opt for the latter, and the ex-showroom price jumps to Rs 8.20 lakh.

The 6-speed torque converter comes with the 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 95bhp and 119Nm of peak torque. Ford says that the combination of those two can return a mileage of up to 16kmpl.

If that puts off, here’s something that’ll put a smile on your face. The 6-speed AT comes with Sport Mode and SelectShift features. Engaging the Sport Mode ensures the engine revs higher all the way to the red line and switches between gears a lot faster. The SelectShift option, on the other hand, allows the driver to manually change gears using a toggle switch on the gear lever.

As you’d expect, the price difference between the two automatic variants comes from their lists of features. As standard, both derivatives come with stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with embedded navigation, power-adjustable ORVMs, a rear-view camera, push-button start and new 15-inch alloy wheels. In Titanium+ spec, the Figo AT packs additional features such as automatic climate control, power-foldable ORVMs, six airbags, front fog lamps, rear wiper with washer and defogger, auto-dimming IRVM and, auto wipers and headlamps.

In India, the Ford Figo continues to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Both those cars already have automatic gearbox options in the form of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). The Figo, on the other hand, has a torque converter unit that promises a smoother driving experience.
