Heads up, Honda fans! Your wait for the WR-V facelift is almost over. The Japanese carmaker has announced that the refreshed model will launch later this month. More importantly, however, it has begun accepting bookings for the subcompact SUV. The minimum token for reserving the updated WR-V is Rs 21,000. If you are amongst the interested, all you need to do is reach the nearest authorised dealership and deposit that amount.
Before you wonder, the WR-V facelift will be available with BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. As before, the sub-4 metre SUV will share the powerplants with the Amaze. In the sedan, the petrol engine produces 89bhp/110Nm (with both 5-speed MT and CVT), whereas the diesel is available in two states of tune – 99bhp/200Nm (with 5-speed manual gearbox) and 79bhp/160Nm (with the CVT). In all probability, the WR-V will get the same power/torque figures. Honda might introduce a CVT-equipped variant as well.
Honda hasn’t revealed the complete set of design and feature changes for the WR-V facelift. However, that will include a new grille, slightly modified front bumper, LED-powered projector headlamps, LED units in the C-shaped tail lamps and LED fog lamps. Expect Honda to make some minute changes indoors too.
With the upgraded engines and an enhanced list of features, the WR-V facelift will cost noticeably more than before. Once launched, it will try and lure customers away from the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the Mahindra XUV300. That is a formidable list of competitors.
In addition to launching the WR-V facelift, Honda will also unveil the India-spec, all-new City sedan. Unveiled in Thailand last year, it should arrive in India within the first half of 2020. Which Honda are you more excited about?
