Sticking with its original plan, Volvo Cars India has launched refreshed versions of S90 and XC60. Besides boasting tweaked designs, both have ditched diesel in favour of mild-hybrid petrol engines. And as before, they are available only in range-topping Inscription forms. Volvo has slapped on the same price tag on both newcomers, which is Rs 61.90 lakh. That’s only Rs 1 lakh more than their older versions.
The refreshed models arrive in B5 spec. That means there’s a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet, mated to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The internal combustion mill produces 247bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. The integrated starter-generator aids the motor with an additional 13bhp/40Nm. All of that oomph is harnessed and fed to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. As a result, both cars can hit 100kmph from a standstill in about 7 seconds and reach 180kmph before awakening the electronic speed-governing nannies.
The new S90 offers features like adaptive cruise control, a 19-speaker, 1,400-watt Bowers and Wilkins sound system, a 360-degree camera, air suspension, and electric front seats with massage function on the features front. The new XC60, on the other hand, has a similar list of creature comforts. It comprises a 15-speaker, 1,100-watt Bowers and Wilkins sound system, adaptive cruise control, the latest version of Pilot Assist and an Android-based touchscreen infotainment system.
Besides featuring a new powertrain, the refreshed Volvos also boast tweaked designs. Both get a reworked grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, more prominent chrome detailing and new alloy wheels. In addition, Volvo is offering the S90 in four colours – Crystal White, Bright Silver, Onyx Black and Denim Blue. On the other hand, the SUV has six options – Crystal White Pearl, Osmium Grey, Onyx Black, Denim Blue, Pine Grey and Fusion Red.
In India, the Volvo S90 competes directly with the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Lexus ES and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. As for the XC60, it rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the upcoming Audi Q5.
