Ever since it was first introduced in 2016, the Skoda Kodiaq has registered over 600,000 sales worldwide. The brand’s flagship SUV is available in sixty countries, and it was this very model that kicked-in Skoda’s idiosyncrasy – all SUV names to begin with K and end with a Q. Come April 13, 2021, the Czech carmaker will take the wraps off the refreshed Kodiaq. For now, the VW-owned company has released three teaser images and confirmed a few details.
Yes, we shouldn’t read too much into these digital design drawings, for they are mostly misleading. The first sketch above hits at a revised face. Skoda says that the Kodiaq facelift will boast a redesigned bonnet and a more upright hexagonal grille. Flanking the latter will be sharper-looking headlamps with LED-powered units. Even the front bumper has paid a visit to the drawing board as it now houses a wider central air intake with L-shaped trim elements at either end.
At the rear end, the revamped Kodiaq will get sleeker yet busier-looking tail lamps. As per Skoda, they mirror the style of their counterparts at the front. The taillights feature Skoda’s crystalline structures and, if you really concentrate, house a toned-down version of the classic C-shaped design.
Skoda’s keeping the rest of the information concealed at the moment. In all probability, the updated SUV will also offer a longer list of creature comforts and, maybe, a tweaked design on a few bits and pieces inside the cabin. Expect new alloy wheels too.
Depending on the market, the Kodiaq facelift will sell in petrol and/or diesel guises. Before arriving in India, which should happen by the end of the year, dealerships in Europe will get it. In India, it’ll come in the former form only, packing a 2.0-litre TSI engine that does duty in the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Audi Q2, Audi A4 and the Skoda Superb.
