Toyota’s Made Changes To Three Models
Last month saw Toyota increase prices of four models – the Glanza, Yaris, Innova and Fortuner. Now, we’ve got upward price revisions for two more – the Camry and the Vellfire. The sedan now costs Rs 39.02 lakh, which is Rs 1.14 lakh more than before. As for the luxury MPV, the asking price has risen to 83.5 lakh. That’s a whopping Rs 4 lakh more than the launch price.
The third change comes in Yaris’ case. The sedan’s variant list is down from fourteen to eleven. Prices for three variants – V, VX (Petrol-MT) and V (Petrol-CVT) are not available any more. You have to say that this development is just as weird, if not more, as what happened last month. All other Toyota products received comprehendible price hikes. But for Yaris, the increase ranged between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1.68 lakh.
Toyota offers the Yaris with one engine and two transmission options. The 1.5-litre mill, which produces 106bhp/140Nm, is available either with a 6-speed manual or a 7-step CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The claimed mileage figures for the manual and CVT are 17.18kmpl and 18.1kmpl, respectively. In India, the Yaris competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento. Out of the lot, only the Honda and Hyundai sedans have diesel-fed variants.
As for the Camry, there’s just one direct rival – the Skoda Superb. Unlike the Skoda, however, the Toyota sedan is available only in a hybrid form. That’s the reason why it costs considerably more than the Czech product. Lastly, Vellfire. Just like in Camry’s case, the Vellfire has only one main competitor in India – the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. Although the German MPV’s range starts much lower than the Vellfire’s price, the V-Class has variants which go way beyond the Rs 1 crore mark.
