Saar: The 1.5-litre petrol engine (no diesel here!) comes mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed CVT.

Toyota has announced the pricing of its Yaris sedan. It starts at Rs 8.75 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 14.07 lakh (ex-showroom India). This, as per Toyota, is an introductory price list and bookings have also started at a refundable token amount of Rs 50,000. The deliveries for the Toyota Yaris will commence next month. Here’s the variant-wise price-list (ex-showroom India):

Toyota Yaris Price-List (Ex-Showroom India)

JRs 8.75 LakhRs 9.95 Lakh
GRs 10.56 LakhRs 11.76 Lakh
VRs 11.70 LakhRs 12.90 Lakh
VXRs 12.85 LakhRs 14.07 Lakh

Unlike its direct rivals, the Toyota Yaris is available only with a petrol engine. It is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder unit that produces 107PS of power and 140Nm of torque. Transmission duties can be aligned to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed CVT (continuously variable transmission). As mentioned above in the price list, the CVT is available in all variants. None of the Yaris’ competitors offer a two-pedal setup in all variants. Mileage figures for the Yaris are clocked at 17.1kmpl and 17.8kmpl for the manual and CVT units respectively.

As far as features are concerned, the Yaris has some bespoke ones amongst its rivals. The list includes touchscreen infotainment with gesture control, tyre-pressure monitoring system, roof-mounted rear AC vents with ambient lighting, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and parking sensors at the front. As for the paddle shifters, they are restricted to only the top-spec automatic variants.

A similar scene is the list of safety features. The Toyota Yaris becomes the first car in the segment to offer 7 airbags, ABS and EBD as standard across all its variants. Other standout safety features include the disc brakes on all four wheels, hill start assist and rear parking sensors.

Even at this introductory price, the Toyota Yaris becomes the most expensive offering of the lot. If you are after the Yaris VX with a manual transmission, you will have to wait until the end of July 2018 because that’s when it will go on sale. To put things in perspective, we have listed the prices (ex-showroom Delhi) of all its direct rivals below:

Toyota Yaris Competition: Price Range (Ex-Showroom)

CarPrice Range
Honda CityRs 8.72 - 13.82 Lakh
Maruti Suzuki CiazRs 7.83 - 11.62 Lakh
Hyundai VernaRs 7.80 - 12.76 Lakh
Skoda RapidRs 8.36 - 13.93 Lakh
Volkswagen VentoRs 8.19 - 13.87 Lakh

Of course, there will be Toyota loyalists who wouldn’t mind paying the premium for the Yaris. If you too are one, it is better to book yours right away because who knows when these prices will be hiked.
