Morris Garages India has added variant number six to Gloster’s lineup. Dubbed as Savvy 7-Seater, it costs Rs 37.28 lakh. That’s the same as the 6-seater version. The new derivative adopts a 2+3+2 seating arrangement. In other words, instead of two captain seats in the second row, it packs a bench seat. The new layout comes with a 60:40 split with easy access levers at both ends.
The rest of the package remains unaltered. Since the new variant is in the Savvy trim, it comes with a 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine that produces 215bhp and 480Nm of torque. Coupled to the powerplant are 8-speed automatic transmission, a shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system and an electro-mechanical differential lock.
The list of creature comforts includes a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, automatic parking assist, adaptive cruise control, multiple drive modes, powered front seats and three-zone automatic climate control. Features such as a wireless mobile charger, memory function for ORVMs and driver’s seat, a 12-speaker sound system, and a fully automatic powered tailgate are also offered. Yes, the Gloster comes with MG’s i-Smart connected-car technology with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system as the control centre.
MG’s flagship SUV is also big on safety. Apart from packing Hill Descent and Hill Hold Control systems, a 360-degree around-view camera and electric parking brake with auto-hold, the Savvy trim also comes with multiple first-in-segment features. That includes a driver fatigue monitor, blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane departure warning.
In India, the MG Gloster (Rs 29.98 – 37.28 lakh) competes with Toyota Fortuner (Rs 30.34 – 38.30 lakh), Ford Endeavour (Rs 33.82 – 36.27 lakh) and the Isuzu mu-X (Rs 33.23 – 35.19 lakh). So, which of the three is your favourite? Or, would you rather spend that money on something small but with a posher badge? Yes, you could get an Audi Q2 and even a BMW X1 in the same sort of price bracket.
