Reaching the 10,000 production milestone isn’t challenging for a mainstream carmaker. In fact, most of them don’t even bother blinking on such an achievement! But, for a brand that only makes super sportscars, costing more than a house does in many markets, it is a big deal. Lamborghini, which fits in that category, already has such records under its belt. All three models – Gallardo, Huracan and Urus – breached the 10,000 production mark. Today, the Aventador joined that elite club.
The specimen that has 10,000 as the chassis number is the Aventador SVJ Roadster, heading to Thailand. It’s finished in Grigio Acheso (grey) colour with Rosso Mimir (red) livery and Ad Personam interior in Rosso Alala (red) and black. Behind the seats is a 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 with 759bhp/720Nm, mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. As per Lamborghini, it can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 2.9 seconds and breach past the 350kmph mark at full stretch. Production for the SVJ-spec Aventadors is limited to 900 units.
It was back in 2011 when Lamborghini introduced the Aventador in coupe form. At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the Italian brand unveiled a striking concept – the Aventador J. It had no roof and no windscreen but packed the same oomph as the coupe. Surprisingly, it was approved for road use, and just one of them exists in the world. Later in the same year, Lamborghini launched the Aventador Roadster. After that, in 2016, came the limited-edition Aventador Miura Homage, and the Aventador S, which introduced a refreshed aerodynamic design, upgraded suspension and more power.
Paying tribute to Automobili Lamborghini is the Aventador SVJ 63. That number not only points back to 1963, the founding year of the company, but also confirms how many specimens will ever exist. Many thought that to meet the stricter emission norms, Lamborghini will have to ditch the V12 and employ turbocharging for the Aventador’s successor. That’s not the case. Instead, the company will use a V12 hybrid powertrain, and in that mix will be a dual-clutch transmission.
