It was back in April this year when the BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) XUV500 received a price list. The SUV had lost the option of the automatic transmission and a trim level. Now, however, Mahindra has reintroduced the convenience of the two-pedal setup. The 6-speed torque converter is available in three trim levels – W7, W9 and W11 (O). Here’s how the price list looks like:
Simple math reveals that one would have to spend at least Rs 1.2 lakh more for an automatic variant when compared to the manual derivative. There’s no change to the power and torque outputs. The 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine puts out 153bhp/360Nm, and all of that oomph goes to the front wheels only.
As you’d expect, both manual and automatic counterparts share more-or-less the same list of features. Opt for the W7 trim level, and the XUV500 comes with stuff like push-button start/stop, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto, LED DRLs, automatic climate control and ESP with rollover mitigation. Go a level higher, and the W9-spec XUV500 ropes-in additional features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, a rear-view camera, 8-way adjustable driver’s seats, telescopic steering adjust, power-folding ORVMs, tyre pressure monitoring system and an electric sunroof.
The range-topping W11 (O) gets all the bells and whistles, including support for Apple CarPlay, power-adjustable driver’s seats, side & curtain airbags, 18-inch alloy wheels and a whole lot of chrome treatment.
Expect this update for the current-gen XUV500 the very last. Mahindra is all set to introduce an all-new version either by the end of 2020 or early next year. That should be a worthy contender against options like the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Tata Gravitas. If priced competitively, the new XUV500 will also try and lure customers away from range-topping Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
