It was in June last year when Tata Motors confirmed the roll-out of the 200,000th Nexon from its production facility. And in less than eight months, that production counter has breached the 300,000-mark. To celebrate the occasion, the Indian automaker has introduced two new trim levels for the sub-compact SUV. They are XZ+ (HS) and XZ+ (P), available in petrol and diesel guises with or without an automatic transmission. The table below clears the air:

All new additions to the list of variants are available in a new colour – Royal Blue. Those suffixed with (HS) slot themselves between the (S) and #Dark derivatives. The new ones will come equipped with an air purifier, a sought-after feature. However, those with (P) at the end sit just below the range-topping Kaziranga Editions. The former come equipped with extra stuff such as Premium Benecke Kaliko Leatherette ventilated front seats, an air purifier and an auto-dimming IRVM. Tata Motors says that these new features have also been added to the #Dark Editions.

As you’d expect, there are no mechanical changes to report. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine pumps out 118bhp and 170Nm of peak torque. And the 1.5-litre diesel offers 108bhp/260Nm. As standard, both powerplants come coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, you can have them mated to a 6-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) as well.

Apart from the features listed above, the Tata Nexon also offers stuff like auto headlamps and wipers, an electric sunroof, cruise control, connected-car tech, an 8-speaker sound system, 16-inch alloy wheels and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Nexon has been instrumental in Tata’s rise in the passenger vehicle space. The list of Nexon’s rivals includes the Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. Out of the lot, which one would be your pick?
