If you’re utterly confused what the headline is all about, this should help. There’s a card game called Poker. It has rules, and one of them is that not much beats a straight hand. Others might relate to it as a sequence of five cards. And when that happens with cards from the same suit, the probability of winning grows multifold. In Poker, scoring that is called a Straight Flush.
So, you see, BMW has done just that. By launching the new X6 in India today, it has filled the only gap between the compact X3 to the super-sized X7. Contrary to what we believed would happen, the new-gen X6 arrives with only one engine-transmission combination – the xDrive40i. It is available in two trim levels – M Sport and xLine – and both cost the same – Rs 95 lakh.
Propelling both is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which puts out 335bhp/450Nm, while an 8-speed automatic handles transmission duties. BMW claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph. And to ensure there’s little wastage of grunt, there’s an all-wheel-drive system in the mix.
As for the list of features, the X6 shares nearly all of them with the X5. That means features like Adaptive 2-axle air suspension, launch control, ambient lighting, 2.5-zone climate control, a powered tailgate and rain-sensing wipers are part of the kit. If all that isn’t enough, the crossover also comes with two 12.3-inch displays (one each for the instrument cluster and infotainment purposes), a 10-speaker 205-watt sound system, front and rear parking sensors and wireless mobile charging. Between the two trim levels, the significant difference comes in the feel. As the name suggests, the M Sport is more on the aggressive side, while the xLine accentuates the luxury factor.
In India, the BMW X6 rivals the likes of the Audi Q8, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe (coming soon) and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe. Like all its competitors, the X6 lands on Indian shores via the CBU route. If you had to pick one, which would it be?
