It has been more than a year since Jeep introduced the thoroughly refreshed Compass in India. But unfortunately, the only missing link in its portfolio was the Trailhawk version. Well, that void has now been filled. What becomes the most capable go-anywhere variant of the Compass range has an ex-showroom price of Rs 30.72 lakh. That means the Trailhawk derivative costs Rs 1.38 lakh more than the variant it is based on – the Model S Diesel 4×4 AT.
So, what do you get for that extra amount? In terms of design, the Trailhawk comes with different bumpers and alloys, alongside multiple dual-tone colour options and some ‘Trailhawk’ branding inside and outside the cabin. The new range-topper also packs additional features such as underbody skid plate protection, Selec-Terrain system with Rock Mode and off-road suspension.
Also, the Compass Trailhawk is available exclusively with the 2.0-litre diesel engine. Like in the rest of the range, the powerplant pumps out 168bhp/350Nm, while a 9-speed automatic transmission handles transmission duties. Needless to say, the Trailhawk comes with a 4×4 system.
The list of features is almost identical to that of the Model S. It includes a powered tailgate, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker sound system and electrically adjustable (8-way) front seats. Other creature comforts, such as dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless mobile charger, a 360-degree camera and auto-hold function, are also available.
So, there you have it. The new Jeep Compass Trailhawk will appeal to those who want solid off-roading capability without much bulk to lug around. And because the Compass has a broad portfolio, it competes with everything from the Tata Harrier and MG Hector at one end and Volkswagen Tiguan and Citroen C5 Aircross at the other. However, the question is – would you consider the new Compass Trailhawk?
