After making its global debut in May last year, the refreshed BMW 5 Series has landed on Indian shores. Compared to the pre-facelift version, the new one looks more attractive. Besides the design tweaks, the revised sedan also packs more gadgets. And, as before, it is available with three engine options. Prices start at Rs 62.9 lakh and go up to Rs 71.9 lakh. Here’s the variant-wise price list:
- 530i M Sport – Rs 62.90 lakh
- 520d Luxury Line – Rs 63.9 lakh
- 530d M Sport – Rs 71.9 lakh
In 530i form, the BMW 5 Series comes with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 248bhp/350Nm. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 6.1 seconds. Those who want a diesel-powered heart under the bonnet have two options – a 2.0-litre unit with 188bhp/400Nm and a 3.0-litre mill with 261bhp/620Nm. The former can propel the 520d to 100kmph from nothing in 7.5 seconds. The latter, which solely does duty in the 530d, can complete the standard sprint in 5.7 seconds. All three powerplants come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission by default.
As far as the design changes go, the new 5 Series features redesigned front and rear bumpers, a larger kidney grille, reprofiled taillamps and sleeker headlamps. Yes, the alloy wheels are different too. Indoors, tech upgrades account for the most significant changes. That includes BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen control centre, an upgraded navigation system and the brand’s “Intelligent Personal Assistant”.
Yes, the 5 Series continues to offer a long list of creature comforts. It includes wireless mobile charging, auto headlamps and wipers, ambient lighting, electric sunroof and four-zone automatic climate control. Other features, such as auto-dimming IRVM, powered seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 18-inch alloy wheels, are also offered.
The refreshed BMW 5 Series renews its rivalry with the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF and the Volvo S90. Out of the lot, which one would you pick?
