Those who love big and burly cars will surely dig MG Motor India’s latest offering – the Gloster. Prices start at Rs 28.98 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 35.38 lakh. There are a total of five variants available, spread across four trim levels – Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy. Here’s how the complete price list looks like:

So, you’ve got a choice between a six- and a seven-seater layout, and between two-wheel- and four-wheel-drive. All variants are available in four colours – Metal Black, Agate Red, Warm White and Metal Ash.  As standard, the Gloster comes with a three-year/1,00,000km warranty, three years membership for roadside assistance and three labour-free services. However, you can get those extended by signing-up the MG Shield. The company is also offering customisations worth Rs 50,000. Before you wonder, that amount cannot be adjusted against the SUV’s price.

No matter which derivative you pick, the Gloster will pack the same 2.0-litre diesel engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. The difference, however, comes in the number of turbochargers. With one, the motor pumps out 161bhp/375Nm. Add the second turbo, and the power/torque figures shoot up to 215bhp/480Nm.

Features? It has bucket-loads of them. Stuff like Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection and Driver Fatigue Reminder System are firsts in the segment. Other features which fall in the same list include 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory and heating functions, captain seats in the second row, wireless mobile charging and a built-in PM2.5 filter. If you want more dope on it, you can get it right here.

The Gloster is MG’s answer to the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and the Toyota Fortuner. It’ll be interesting to observe how the three-way battle pans out. And, let’s not forget, there are other options, albeit less hardcore, in the same sort of price bracket. There’s the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Honda CR-V and the top-end Hyundai Tucson. Joining the list will be an upcoming Audi – the Q2. Sure, it won’t provide the space as any of the others mentioned above, but it will offer more snob value.
