If you’re in the market to land a premium hatchback with an automatic transmission, the list of options has just widened for you. Tata Motors has introduced a new gearbox option for the Altroz – DCA. That stands for Dual Clutch Automatic, and it is available exclusively with the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Here’s the list of variants on offer, along with their prices:

  • XMA+ – Rs 8.10 lakh
  • XTA – Rs 8.60 lakh
  • XTA #Dark Edition – Rs 9.06 lakh
  • XZA – Rs 9.10 lakh
  • XZA(O) – Rs 9.22 lakh
  • XZA+ – Rs 9.60 lakh
  • XZA+ #Dark Edition – Rs 9.90 lakh

Predictably, the DCA variants cost more than their manual counterparts. The new gearbox should be handy in those start-stop city drives, and it comes with features like machine learning, auto park lock and a self-healing mechanism. And as mentioned above, it comes coupled to the non-turbocharged petrol mill that puts out 85bhp/113Nm.

To up the ante a bit more, Tata Motors has also introduced a new colour option for the Altroz –Opera Blue. Other paint shades include the Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, Avenue White, Harbour Blue and Cosmic Black (#Dark Edition).

Features? The Altroz offers stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control and fully automatic climate control with rear AC vents. The list also includes auto headlamps, a 7.0-inch TFT display within the instrument cluster, 16-inch alloy wheels, mood lighting, iRA connected-car tech, multiple drive modes and auto-folding ORVMs.

If you want more oomph, you still have two engine options – the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. The former generates 108bhp/140Nm, whereas the latter offers 89bhp/200Nm. Of course, the only downer with those two mills is the lack of an automatic transmission option.

Tata Motors says that it has sold over 1.25 lakh units of the Altroz since launch. That’s impressive since the car completes some genuine potent products – the Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza and the segment king – the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. So, do you think that the DCA option is for you?
