Devising a product for the masses in India and including a half-hearted infotainment system is a risky theory to go with. To transform that into a safer recipe, Tata Motors has upgraded the infotainment systems on the top-sped Tiago and Tigor models. Up until now, both siblings featured a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto only. Now, however, the compatibility for Apple CarPlay has been added to the mix.
The Tata Tigor received the 7.0-inch infotainment unit in October last year, whereas the Tiago got the XZ+ variant in December 2018. Other features that the duo get include projector headlamps, automatic climate control, 15-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker Harman-engineered sound system and multiple drive modes. As standard, the models get features like dual airbags, seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, ABS with EBD and seatbelt reminder for the driver.
It must be noted that both the models still don’t offer seatbelt reminder for front passenger, rear parking sensors and a speed alert warning system, as standard. Expect Tata Motors to fill that gap soon to make them compliant with the new safety norms. Mechanically, there are no changes as of now. The duo still gets BS IV-compliant engines – a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol with 85PS/114Nm and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel which produces 70PS/140Nm. As standard, both engines come coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the petrol engine can also be had with an AMT (automated manual transmission).
The Tiago and the Tigor are still competitively priced in their respective segments. Speaking of which, the hatchback’s list of rivals includes the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10. The sub-4 metre sedan, on the other hand, takes on the Volkswagen Ameo, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
