Tata Motors has just expanded lineups of two models – Harrier and Safari. A new variant called XTA+ has been added to their portfolios. With the Harrier, the new derivative is also available in #Dark form. Here’s how they have been priced:
- Tata Harrier XTA+: Rs 19.14 lakh
- Tata Harrier XTA+ #Dark: Rs 19.34 lakh
- Tata Safari XTA+: Rs 20.09 lakh
Do the math, and you’ll observe that the Harrier XTA+ is Rs 2.08 lakh dearer than the XMA variant and Rs 47,000 less expensive than the XZA derivative. On the other hand, in XTA+ form, the Safari costs Rs 2.28 lakh more than the XMA variant and Rs 87,000 less than the XZA.
Both SUVs have the same set of features as their respective XT+ derivatives. So, in Harrier’s case, the list of creature comforts include a panoramic sunroof, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, auto headlamps and wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker sound system and cruise control. Likewise, the Safari gets almost the same set of features, apart from 18-inch alloy wheels, mood lighting, tyre pressure monitoring system and iRA connected-car technology, among others.
The duo pack the same powertrain. It consists of a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. Coupled to the powerplant is a 6-speed automatic transmission which harnesses and feeds the oomph to the front wheels only.
In India, the Tata Harrier competes with the Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the MG Hector. On the other hand, the Tata Safari rivals the MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and the ageing Mahindra XUV500. As per Tata Motors, the Safari and the Harrier collectively account for 41.2 per cent of the market share in the “High SUV” segment. The automaker is hopeful that the newly introduced variants will help push that percentage even higher. What do you think?
