Saar: As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, Tata Motors will deploy 1,000 EVs and set up charging stations across the state.
The push for adoption of EVs (electric vehicles) in India is coming from just about every angle. Today, homegrown automaker Tata Motors, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Maharashtra state to deploy 1,000 EVs across its range of passenger as well as commercial vehicles in the state. Moreover, Tata Motors will take Tata Power onboard to set up EV charging stations across the state of Maharashtra.
This development adds wings to the government of Maharashtra’s Electric Vehicle Policy 2018, which was devised to accelerate the adoption of EVs in the state. The above-mentioned MoU was signed by Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors Ltd.
Speaking on the occasion, Butschek said:
“Tata Motors is committed to the Government’s vision of e-mobility in India. We are excited to join forces with the Government of Maharashtra towards this endeavor. We are uniquely positioned to leverage the strength of our group companies to create an EV ecosystem. With our ready portfolio of EV offerings across our passenger and commercial vehicles, we are geared up to meet future requirements beyond the current tender commitments.”
At the event, Fednavis also flagged off 5 Tata Tigor EVs at the Gateway of India, Mumbai. These vehicles were provided to EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd) by Tata Motors as part of the tender which two homegrown automakers, Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra, won last year. Butschek went on to mention that Tata Motors has already completed production of 250 cars for EESL and has begun the process for phase 2 orders.
He further added:
“Today’s delivery of 5 Tigor EVs by EESL to the Maharashtra Government has effectively paved way for connecting our aspirations in the e-mobility space with the Government’s vision. With Tigor EV, we have begun our journey in boosting e-mobility and will offer a full range of electric vehicles to the Indian customers. We continue to work in a collaborative manner to facilitate faster adoption of electric vehicles and to build a sustainable future for India.”
Very recently, EESL announced that the deadline for putting 10,000 EVs into use has been extended by nine months. The new deadline is by the end of the current fiscal year, i.e. March 2019.
