Carmakers usually revise prices of their models once a year. And the most common reason given is the increase in input costs. That is fair. It seems Tata Motors has taken a different route. It believes in bumping up the prices after every few months. In September last year, the homegrown automaker increased the prices of the Harrier and the Hexa. In less than four months, both those models have received another upward revision in their price lists. And no, they aren’t BS6-ready (Bharat Stage 6) just yet. The table below shows how Harrier’s prices have gone up:

For the Harrier, this is the third new price list. After it received the original one in January 2019, Tata Motors gave it a revised one in less than five months. All variants went dearer by approximately Rs 31,000. The second time (in September 2019), the revision was less steep at Rs 20,000. Now, the upward bump varies between Rs 35,000 and Rs 45,000. So in less than a year, the Harrier’s prices have increased by up to Rs 96,000. And, don’t think that the Harrier has done well in the market. In eleven months, Tata Motors could only retail about 15,000 units. Over to the Hexa:

After receiving a price hike by up to Rs 47,000 only a few months ago, the three-row MPV’s prices have now increased by another Rs 45,000. Total hike? Rs 92,000. Like the Harrier, the Hexa has received no change in its package. With the Gravitas coming in next month, Tata Motors will face a daunting task on how to push the Hexa forward. Compared to the seven-seater Harrier, the Aria’s successor feels dated. Maybe the Hexa will go out of production, paving a clear way forward for its maker.

Later this month, Tata Motors will launch the Altroz hatchback. Bookings for it began in the first week of December 2019. Another upcoming product is Nexon EV. Like the Altroz, customers can book the zero-emissions SUV as well. However, Tata Motors will launch it by March 2020.
