Every day, India’s adding lakhs of new Coronavirus cases and thousands of deaths to the overall figures. And those figures are scary, to say the least. The entire medical spectrum, be it hospitals, clinics or even vaccination centres, is under massive pressure to keep fatalities at the minimum. And for that, many companies from across industries have come forward to help India fight off the second wave. The latest to join the list is Skoda Auto.
The Czech brand, with Volkswagen Group, has pledged to help by delivering a relief aid worth one million euros. That will comprise both in-kind and monetary donations. The support will consist of medical supplies, such as oxygen concentrators and liquid oxygen tanks. Skoda says that at the moment, it is working to acquire relief supplies and deliver them to the most affected regions at the earliest. The aid is intended to meet as many different needs as possible. The Indian Red Cross is expected to handle the distribution locally.
Here’s what Thomas Schäfer, who is the CEO at Skoda Auto, said in an official statement:
We are in contact with our colleagues in India every day. They know best what is most urgently needed at the moment. We are working hard to secure the appropriate relief supplies, including oxygen tanks, and transport them to India as quickly as possible. We are grateful that we can help our Indian friends on the ground this way. In these challenging circumstances, the Skoda family stands together.
Skoda Auto has employees in Pune, Aurangabad and Mumbai. The brand is part of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd., which Gurpratap Boparai leads. Once the pandemic situation stabilises, the company will introduce its first products under the India 2.0 project – Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun. Other new models in the pipeline include replacements for the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento, and new Tiguan, Octavia and the Tiguan Allspace.
