After launching the Kodiaq Corporate Edition last week, Skoda India has launched another trim level of its flagship offering. Dubbed as the Kodiaq Scout, it wears a price tag of Rs 34 lakh (ex-showroom India). That makes the new derivative Rs 1 lakh dearer than the Corporate Edition. However, it costs Rs 1.37 lakh and Rs 2.79 lakh less than the Style and L&K trim levels, respectively. Ignorable fact: The Scout badge debuted in India with the Fabia.
Propulsion for the Scout comes courtesy of the same powertrain that does duty in other Kodiaq iterations. It is made up of a 2.0-litre TDI engine putting out 148hp/340Nm, a 7-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. Skoda claims a maximum mileage of 16.25kmpl which, if you rope in the massive package, is not bad by any means.
Compared to the others, the Scout has some bespoke styling elements. That list includes a silver spoiler on the front bumper, a silver diffuser on the rear bumper, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chrome-draped interior door handles, black Alcantara upholstery and brushed wood décor. It also gets a couple of added features over other iterations such as an off-road switch for hill descent control and tyre pressure monitoring. Other gizmos such as adaptive LED headlamps, front and rear parking sensors, hands-free parking tech, three-quarter of a dozen airbags, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system mated to a 10-speaker Canton sound system and three-zone climate control are shared amongst all trim levels.
Skoda has always placed the Kodiaq as a premium SUV. In India, the Kodiaq starts at approximately the same price where more capable off-roaders such as the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Isuzu MU-X top out. In the not-so-serious SUVs category, options like the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Volkswagen Tiguan are available.
