Saar: It will make its world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
Czech carmaker Skoda Auto has officially teased the Kodiaq RS with two pictures. They aren’t the usual zoomed-in types. Instead, the Volkswagen-owned company turned the lights down all the way and ensured that just certain design cues are visible. Just to specify, the Skoda Kodiaq RS lapped the Nürburgring in 9 minutes and 29.84 seconds. That makes it the fastest seven-seat SUV to go around the “Green Hell”.
So, what do we learn from the two pictures? Let’s start with the one that has been taken right from the front. The horn-shaped LED DRLs at either end are unmissable. Skoda has also kept the light just right to focus on the grille-mounted RS logo. Lower down, the tyres have a fatter profile which will be useful in taming the Kodiaq RS at high speeds. The second image focuses on the front left-hand side of the SUV. The funky design of the massive alloy wheels immediately catches attention and so does the fact that the Kodiaq RS a slightly lower to the ground. Actually, it needs to be to improve the aerodynamics.
The Kodiaq will become the first SUV in Skoda’s portfolio to wear the RS logo. The acronym RS stands for Rally Sport and were first used back in 1974 on the two rally prototypes, the Skoda 180 RS and 200 RS. For the road, the RS moniker made its debut with the Octavia in the year 2000. In case you are wondering, the ‘v’ in front of the RS logo stands for victory.
Skoda has already revealed that the Kodiaq RS will be powered by a 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 239PS of power and 500Nm of torque. The engine will, in all likelihood, come mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission which will route the oomph to all four wheels. To ensure the best of results during exuberant driving, the Skoda Kodiaq RS will also have Dynamic Chassis Control, which will help in taming the body roll. Also included will be the option to choose from multiple driving modes.
The Kodiaq RS will make its world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, which will open its gates on October 4, 2018. Skoda will put the go-fast SUV on sale in Europe first, followed by the USA. For India, it doesn’t make sense at all. But, consider this. If it comes at the same sort of price as the more expensive variants of the premium compact SUVs, such as the Volvo XC40, the Kodiaq RS might just create a market for itself.
