Finally, the new Range Rover Evoque gets a launch date for India. If you’ve been waiting for it, circle out January 30 on your calendar. Or, if you aren’t sure what that means, just remember the D-day. Those who are closely following the auto industry would know that the second-gen Evoque made its world premiere back in November 2018. That’s over a year ago! Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India, the delay is not appreciated!
What looks like a shrunken Velar, the new Evoque remains just as sexy as before. To some, it might look even better. As you’d expect, the compact crossover will arrive in BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) guise. At the time of launch, it will be available with two 2.0-litre engines, one petrol and diesel each. Which mills in specific? The same ones on offer with the recently launched Jaguar XE.
Both engines will come coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. With 247bhp/365Nm on offer, the petrol mill can help the Evoque sprint to 100kmph from nothing in 7.5 seconds and top out at 230kmph. The diesel engine, on the other hand, produces 177bhp/430Nm, enough for a 0-100kmph time of 9.3 seconds and a claimed top speed of 205kmph. JLR India should offer both those powertrains in at least two trim levels.
That brings us neatly to the crossover’s list of features. Most of it matches with that of the Jaguar XE. The standard list of features includes powered front seats, auto headlamps and wipers, tyre pressure monitoring system, ambient lighting, two-zone climate control, push-button start, a rear-view camera and a 10-inch Touch Pro system with Navigation Pro and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher up the trim tree, the Evoque will come with features such as a powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, a digital instrument cluster and Smart Key.
Like in many other markets, the Evoque has a cult following in India. And the new one is likely to build on it. As far as the expected pricing is concerned, it could fall between Rs 55-65 lakh. That’s because JLR will locally manufacture the new Evoque in India.
