Happy tenth anniversary, Renault India! For those who aren’t sure, Renault began its India innings in collaboration with Mahindra. However, that tanked in 2010, following which the Renault-Nissan alliance took over the control. Since then, Renault has sold more than 7 lakh units in the country. And to celebrate the decennial, the brand has lined up a couple of surprises.

The first one comes in the form of a new Kiger trim level. Dubbed as the RXT (O), it’ll be up for grabs from August 6, 2021. The new derivative will be available with the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 71bhp/96Nm. You can have it with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Going by the nomenclature, it’ll slot between the RXT and RXZ trim levels.

In RXT (O) form, the Kiger will borrow some stuff from the RXZ trim. The list includes tri-octa LED headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels and the option of Radiant Red dual-tone colour. Renault has also added a PM2.5 air filter in the mix, along with a wireless smartphone pairing function with the 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. As for the prices, they’ll be announced tomorrow.

The next surprise is in the form of a campaign called ‘Freedom Carnival’. It’ll run for 10 days, starting on August 6 and ending on August 15, 2021. During this period, customers booking Renault cars will get additional benefits over and above the offers running on models. There’s also an option of Buy Now, Pay in 2022 on Kwid, Triber and Kiger. That means one can buy any of those vehicles and start paying EMIs after six months. And for existing customers, Renault has curated some loyalty benefits.

The ‘Freedom Carnival’ will be a nationwide activity, except for Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Kerela. For these four states, maximum benefits worth Rs 90,000 will be offered on new cars to celebrate the festivities of Ganesh Chathurthi and Onam.

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
