To honour the strong spirit of the specially-abled and differently-abled citizens, the Indian arm of the French carmaker Renault has announced an array of concessions. To begin with, and as directed by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Heavy Industries, Renault will be offering the concessional GST (Goods and Services Tax) rate of 18 per cent.

That’s not all! Renault will also offer internal corporate discounts to the specially-abled. What’s more, if they purchase a car which has an engine smaller than 1,200cc and is less than four metres in length, the carmaker would give a GST waiver. That said, both those offers are applicable only on successful processing of the necessary documentation.

As a result, customers will be eligible to avail a maximum discount of Rs 30,000 on the Duster SUV, and Rs 9,000 on the Kwid as well as the Triber. Renault says that those concessions might be clubbed with other attractive consumer schemes as well. Add all that, and the savings on a new Renault could be substantial.

All cars which have an internal combustion engine come under the 28 per cent tax slab. Then, depending on which category the vehicle falls in, a compensation cess of up to 22 per cent is levied. Take the Renault Kwid as an example. Since it has an engine smaller than 1,200cc and is shorter than four metres in length, it will incur only 1 per cent additional cess. Renault’s flagship, the Duster, would attract a cess of 17 per cent since it measures over four metres in length but has an engine smaller than 1,501cc.

At the moment, Renault has just three products in India. The specially-abled can get the GST waiver on two out of them – the Kwid and the Triber. In the first quarter of next year, Renault will enter the sub-4 metre SUV segment with the Kiger. That too will fall in the same space as the Kwid and the Triber.
