Behold the refreshed Macan Turbo! Porsche tags it as stronger, faster and more agile than its predecessor. We don’t disagree with those claims. But in its cosmetically and dynamically enhanced avatar, the Macan Turbo also looks more menacing than ever before. In the model hierarchy, it dethrones the Macan S to become the new range-topper.

The whole charm of a ‘Turbo’ tag comes from under the bonnet. The refreshed Macan Turbo is powered by a 2.9-litre, V6 engine which is boosted by two turbochargers. For the record, it is the same engine that also does duty in Porsche’s Cayenne and Panamera models. The power-plant pumps out 434hp/550Nm, all of which is harnessed and fed to all four wheels via 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With the optional Sport Chrono Package in place, the Macan Turbo can complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.3 seconds and top out at 270kmph.

All those figures are impressive. But what’s even more impressive is the refreshed model has 20 per cent less cubic capacity to play with than before and yet it delivers 10 per cent more power. For the record, the pre-facelift SUV had a 3.6-litre engine.

To make the Macan Turbo standout from the rest of the range, Porsche has made a number of cosmetic enhancements. The front apron is more aggressive and features three large air intakes. The standard LED headlamps are also equipped with Porsche Dynamic Light System. From the side, the Macan Turbo differentiates itself with 20-inch alloys, sporty side skirts and Sport Design ORVMs finished in body colour. While the roof gets a fixed spoiler, which has its own unique double-wing design, the rear end reveals twin silver tailpipes which are connected to the standard sports exhaust system.

As you’d expect, the list of standard features inside the cabin is just as extensive. It covers a 10.9-inch full-HD touchscreen infotainment system, a 14-speaker, 665-watt Bose Surround Sound System, Porsche Connect Services, Wi-Fi hotspot and 18-way electrically adjust leather sports seats with memory function. Obviously, there’s a list of options as well and that includes wireless mobile charging, heated windscreen, heated GT sports steering wheel and adaptive cruise control.

Porsche has started accepting orders for the Macan Turbo in its main markets. We expect Porsche India to bring the Macan Turbo on our shores as well. If that happens, expect an ex-showroom price of over Rs 1 crore. If you don’t want to wait, the Macan facelift is available in standard and S derivatives.
