We know Porsche can make mesmerising sports cars. With the Taycan, the brand also proved that it could offer a fun driving machine with zero local emissions. That claim comes with the backing of a few records. The Taycan posted the best time in its class of 7 minutes and 42 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. It also took part in a 24-hour endurance run where the EV covered 3,425kn on a track in Nardò.
Now though, Porsche has bagged a Guinness World Record with the Taycan. It is for the longest drift with an electric vehicle (EV). At the Porsche Experience Centre, which is located in Hockenheimring, the EV did 210 laps on the 200-metre-long drift circle. In 55 minutes, Porsche’s instructor Dennis Retera covered 42.171 kilometres during which the front wheels of the car never pointed in the same direction as the track’s curve. The average speed came out to be 46kmph.
It was a rear-wheel-drive Taycan that took part. The derivative, which is already on sale in China, has a single electric motor which offers up to 402bhp/357Nm. Porsche claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 230kmph. Depending on the battery size, it can cover up to 489km on a single charge (according to NEDC).
The Taycan will soon be available in India too. Porsche is unlikely to introduce the two-wheel-drive variant and offer the EV in 4S, Turbo or Turbo S forms. The most powerful of the lot is the Turbo S, which has two electric motors producing up to 751bhp/1,050Nm. Backed by a 93.4 kWh battery, the Taycan Turbo S can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds and reach 260kmph flat out. Like all other Porsche models available in India, the Taycan too will arrive via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. And, of course, it will have an eye-watering price range.
