Saar: The production of the pure-electric hyper-car will be limited to just 150 units.
It was in April this year when Mahindra officially introduced a new car brand – Automobili Pininfarina. Later in the same month, the Italian company released the first set of sketches of its first project – the PF0. It went on to mention that the Pininfarina PF0 will be a pure electric hyper-car which will be able to hit 100kmph from a standstill in less than 2 seconds, breach the 400kmph mark at full stretch and travel up to 500km on a single charge. Last month, the newly formed carmaker released three more sketches of the PF0 and announced that it will be shown in concept form to a select set of eyes at the 2018 Monterey Car Week.
The event is slated to take place in the fourth week of August. And to further up the excitement levels, the carmaker has released yet another set of futuristic drawings of the PF0. This time around it is the interior that has been flaunted. The curvaceous, multi-coloured dashboard has a minimalistic design. The steering wheel, which ditches the old-school circular form for a more hexagonal one, has buttons on both sides of the centrally-mounted Pininfarina logo. Behind the steering wheel, there is a small screen which integrates GPS navigation and the speedometer.
Flanking the steering wheel on both sides are displays which will collectively work as the control and infotainment centre for the PF0. Underneath the screens are the AC vents which blend well with the carbon fibre inserts between the beige and black upholsteries. Only two physical buttons are visible in the sketch. They sit on either side of the steering wheel but on the lower half of the dashboard. One of them will be allocated to drive select, like an automatic gearbox, and the other will be assigned to choose between different driving modes.
Sure, these are just the sketches and the real thing could be a lot different to what has been graphically represented here. That said, the overall design is expected to remain intact. The company has also quantified the strictly-limited production to just 150 units. That will make the Pininfarina PF0 one of the rarest cars ever to be produced. For a reference point, Bugatti has capped the Chiron’s production to 500 units.
As far as the powertrain is concerned, the Pininfarina PF0 will have four electric motors – one for each wheel. Put together, the total power output will be around 2,000PS. That, when clubbed with an expected kerb weight of 2 tonnes, mathematically gives the PF0 a power-to-weight ratio of 1,000PS per tonne. To put things in perspective, that’s nearly twice that of the original Bugatti Veyron.
