Behind the funky exterior, the Nissan Kicks shares most of its underpinnings with its step-sibling and direct rival – the Renault Captur. The Japanese SUV, like the French one, is available with both petrol and diesel engines. Similarities extend further to the specs of the power-plants as well. The 1.5-litre petrol engine puts out 106PS of power and 142Nm of torque, whereas the 1.5-litre diesel mill produces 110PS/240Nm. While the former comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and has a claimed mileage of 14.23kmpl, the latter is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The claimed mileage for the diesel-fed ones is 20.45kmpl in the XL trim and 19.39kmpl for the rest.
The standard list of features includes automatic climate control, rear AC vents, two 12V accessory sockets, electrically adjustable OVRMs with turn indicators, front and rear speakers, Bluetooth/MP3/USB/AUX supported music system, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, rear defogger and rear parking sensors. The range-topping trims enhance the list of features with rear fog lamp, hill start assist, leather upholstery for seats, rearview camera, around view 360-degree monitor, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control and front fog lamps with cornering function.
The Kicks comes with a choice of 7 single-tone and 4 dual-tone exterior colours. The single-tone paints are Pearl White, Blade Silver, Bronze Grey, Amber Orange, Deep Blue Pearl, Night Shade and Fire Red. These colours are available with all the trims. However, the four dual-tone colour schemes are exclusively available with the range-topping XV Pre Option trim. The list comprises of Pearl White with Amber Orange roof, Pearl White with Onyx Black roof, Bronze Grey with Amber Orange roof and Fire Red with Onyx Black. As standard, the Nissan Kicks comes with 3 years/ unlimited kilometres warranty, 3 years of free roadside assistance and 3 years of service maintenance at no cost. Wow!
As mentioned above, the Nissan Kicks is a direct rival to the Renault Captur. Apart from that, the Japanese SUV also takes the game to the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the Hyundai Creta, which has dominated the segment singlehandedly. Later this year, the segment will also receive two new products – the Mahindra XUV300 and the Kia Tusker (production version of the Kia SP Concept from the 2018 Auto Expo).
