Tata Motors introduced the refreshed Nexon in January this year. In addition to sporting a tweaked design, the subcompact SUV also gained BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) powertrains. Then, towards the end of February, the Nexon received a punchier petrol engine. Now, it has got a new trim level – XZ+(S). It slots between the XZ+ and XZ+(O) derivatives. Here’s how the Nexon’s updated price list looks like:

You have to admit that it is a lengthy price list. And don’t bother counting how many different prices you have there. There are 32. THIRTY-TWO! Zeroing down on the perfect one will be a tough task for customers. Anyway, let’s focus on the new trim level. Compared to the XZ+ trim, the XZ+(S) gets leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, electric sunroof, auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control and the Xpress Cool feature. Are all those gizmos enough to justify a price difference of Rs 60,000? Yes.

When you compare XZ+(S) with the range-topping XZ+(O) trim, the former misses out on the range of connected-car features such as live vehicle diagnostics and tracking, trip analytics and remote operation of headlamps, lock and horn through a smartphone. The rest of the kit is identical between the two trim levels. As far as the price difference is concerned, the XZ+(S) costs Rs 30,000 less.

Mechanically, the Nexon remains unaltered. There are two engines – a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel – and two transmissions – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) – on offer. As for the power/torque figures, they stand at 118bhp/170Nm for the petrol mill and 108bhp/260Nm for the diesel.

In India, the Tata Nexon is a rival for the Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Honda WR-V, which will soon receive a mid-life update along with BS6-compliant powertrains.
