There is no other way of saying this – Honda is late to join the bandwagon of brands who aim to contribute in the worldwide push for electrified mobility. Allow us to further explain that claim. Ever since the need for alternative fuels to power vehicles started to gather importance, the Japanese carmaker gave FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles) a higher priority than BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles). That’s why Japan and California in the USA received a product called the Honda FCX Clarity.

It is clear that Honda has understood that the need for diversification in providing a zero-emissions propulsion system is a must to withstand the varied demands in markets around the globe. That’s why in 2017, we saw Honda unveil two EV prototypes – the Urban EV Concept and the Sports EV Concept. Both concept vehicles showcased where the design and engineering team at Honda is heading. However, there is a third EV concept vehicle that Honda wants the world to see. That will happen at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Honda has released just one image of the prototype heading to Switzerland and car nutters will immediately see the undeniable resemblance of it with that of Honda’s Urban EV Concept, which was unveiled during the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. As you’d expect, there are no details on the EV yet but Honda has confirmed that the mass production version of it will be on sale later in the year. That’s definitely something to look forward to!

Once launched, it will become Honda’s first modern EV to go on sale. It will play a crucial role in Honda’s main target – two-thirds of European sales will feature electrified technology by the year 2025. When we say electrified, it will include varied powertrains including FCEVs, PHEVs, HEVs and, of course, BEVs. Their descendants, in one form or the other, will eventually end in India as well. Presently, the only electrified model that Honda offers on our shores is the Accord Hybrid.
