More Affordable Audi Models Coming In 2-3 Years: Rahil Ansari
Saar: While Audi India’s head honcho didn’t leak any model names, we believe the Q2 SUV and the A1 hatchback will be among the shortlisted models.
Audi India’s glory days, when it occupied the number one position amongst the luxury car brands in India, have been absent for a while. In fact, it was in 2015 when Audi outgunned its peers from other parts of Germany – Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Presently, the four-rings is placed third, with the three-pointed star leading the way. However, Audi India is now plotting a fightback. According to a report published by ET Auto, Audi India will launch at least three products in the coming 2-3 years which will undercut the A3 and the Q3 currently present in India.
Rahil Ansari, head, Audi India, reportedly said, “India is a strategic market and we will continue to invest however, the currently the tax structure is very unfavourable which preventing us in going full throttle in investment. So far, I have been busy in cleaning up and putting things in order. In order to gain a customer base, we will introduce products in the volume segment, below A3 and Q3, in the next two-three years.”

Just so we are all on the same page, Ansari’s reference to “cleaning up” means he has a plan of action in place and that the results of the same will soon start reflecting in the company’s performance in India. Currently, the A3, which starts at Rs 32 lakh (ex-showroom), is the least expensive Audi on sale in the country. On the other hand, the least expensive iteration of the Q3 is priced at Rs 33.4 lakh (ex-showroom). The three products, which will undercut both the A3 and Q3, will include a sedan, hatchback and an SUV each.
As far as the SUV is concerned, the Q2 should fit the bill quite well for India. For the sedan and the hatchback, Audi could take the A1 in the equation and give it two different dresses to wear. Sure, these less expensive Audi products will have the potential to bring home sales numbers. At the same time, Ansari wouldn’t want a sub-par product to tamper the brand’s premium image. Ansari said the Audi India would ensure double-digit product launches every year starting this year.
