Of late, Morris Garages India has been making quite a noise about its upcoming offering – the Hector Plus. Bookings for the three-row people carrier opened yesterday. In fact, we know pretty much everything about the car barring the price and the variant-wise list of features. The company should reveal those details by the end of the month. On the back burner, however, MG was revising the prices of the Hector. Here’s how they look like:
Depending on the variant, you’d be paying up to Rs 17,000 more than you would have before. This latest upward price revision is the third one it has received in just over a year. The SUV, which completed its first year in India last month, completed the transition into BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) form in April this year. That resulted in the second price hike. It was in September last year when the Hector received its first price hike and put the introductory price list to rest.
The Hector began its innings in India with a lot of promise. So was the demand that Morris Garages India had to suspend the bookings process temporarily. A lot has changed since then. Its main rival – the Tata Harrier – now has the same 168bhp diesel engine on offer. The Kia Seltos has carved a good piece of the market in the compact SUV space. And then, there’s the new Creta. That doesn’t need any introduction as the marque itself has an immensely strong following.
That said, the Hector has a lot going for itself too. The looks, tons of kit and a range of powertrain options put it right back in the game. The Seltos and Creta also offer multiple powertrain options, but they aren’t quite as potent. As for the Harrier, it did receive the choice of an automatic transmission earlier this year. However, it is still not available with a petrol engine.
