It was in October last year when Morris Garages India launched the Gloster. Less than a month later, the company retracted the introductory price list and imposed a revised one. With that, the Gloster got dearer by up to Rs 1 lakh. Now, however, the SUV has received yet another price revision. The table below compares the old prices with the latest ones:
As you can see, only three out of the five variants have become costlier. Another takeaway from this development is that both Sharp variants now cost the same. Earlier, there was a price difference of Rs 30,000 between them.
Even with the new prices in place, the Gloster isn’t the most expensive SUV in its segment. That title goes to the bestselling model in that space – the Toyota Fortuner. Here’s how the MG’s rivals’ prices stack up:
Out of the four SUVs, the Gloster is the only one with two diesel engine options. You can have it with a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor that produces 161bhp/375Nm. If that’s a bit less for you, MG also offers a twin-turbocharged version of the same engine. That pumps out 215bhp/480Nm. Both those powerplants come paired with 8-speed automatic transmission, and only the gutsier motor has a four-wheel-drive system.
Besides packing segment-leading power (not torque as Fortuner diesel offers up to 500Nm), the Gloster also comes with many creature comforts. Some of the standout ones include Adaptive Cruise Control, electronic gear shift with auto park, 12-way power-adjustable seats with memory and massage functions, three-zone climate control and a PM 2.5 filter. MG’s flagship offering also offers stuff like wireless mobile charging, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, powered tailgate, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
Those who don’t want a hardcore off-roader in that space can also consider the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. Bookings for that will open soon. By early next year, the list of options will get broader with the addition of the Skoda Kodiaq facelift.
