Only a week after Mercedes-Benz India launched the V-Class earlier this year, a mid-life update of the big people carrier was revealed for international markets. While that left us bewildered, an announcement along with the refreshed MPV’s released got us excited. Mercedes-Benz said that at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, it will unveil the EQV concept. Well, it has and here it is.

Let’s make one thing perfectly clear – the EQV will enter production sometime soon, albeit in a toned-down version of what we see here. And once it does, it will become the largest, purely-electric passenger vehicle to flaunt the three-pointed star. Underneath the concept vehicle is what Mercedes-Benz calls a “compact electric drivetrain”. In other words, everything from the electric motor, the transmission, supporting electronics and the cooling system are bound in a compact unit which rides on top of the front axle.

The Mercedes-Benz EQV shares almost all the behind-the-scenes stuff with the EQ C, including the powertrain. The company claims that the maximum power is rated at 204PS and the 100-kWh battery pack helps deliver a range of 400km between charging points. Fast charging is available. Mercedes-Benz claims that with the recommended charging setup, the EQV Concept’s battery pack can add 100km of range in just 15 minutes. Top speed: 160kmph.

Since it is a V-Class, it can carry up to eight people without producing any emissions on the move. Unfortunately, it can’t ensure the same level of “emission-free” ambience inside the cabin where the living things are in control and not the car. Mercedes-Benz will also do a six- or a seven-seat layout if that’s what the customer wants.

On the features front, the resemblance with the EQ C continues. The dashboard now flaunts MBUX infotainment system with voice control functionality. But there is a difference. Unlike the MBUX systems seen in other latest Mercedes-Benz cars, the one in the EQV Concept works using a single screen. Other features include LED headlamps, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, ambient lighting and a mobile app which controls everything from the automatic climate control functions to cash-less payments at public charging points.

We won’t have to wait too long before the Stuttgart-based automaker introduces the production version of the EQV Concept. How? Because that is going to happen at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show.
