During the first quarter of 2020, Mercedes-Benz India sold 2,386 units. That number, courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic, fell down to 563 in Q2. In Q3, which ended last month, the German brand retailed 2,058 units. Now, if math isn’t your game, then all you need is some imagination here. On a graph, those three numbers against their quarter markers will show a V-shaped recovery.

However, if you are a fan of number games, then get this – in 2020, Mercedes-Benz India has sold 5,007 vehicles. Compared to the Q2 numbers, the company’s sales grew over 265 per cent in Q3. Do you need more? Okay. SUVs remained the most preferred type of vehicles for Mercedes-Benz customers with 48 per cent penetration in September 2020 sales. Last month’s performance shows that sales recovery is up to 80 per cent. And, the online booking platform contributed around 20 per cent of Q3’s overall sales.

Leading the sales chart for the company is the E-Class sedan. It remains the single highest-selling model for Mercedes-Benz India this year. Right behind it are the C-Class sedan and the GLC, which remains the best-selling SUV in the company’s portfolio. And let’s not forget, main volume drivers for the company will soon join the party. The A-Class Limousine, which was presented at this year’s Auto Expo, will launch before the calendar runs out of 2020. The car, which will rival the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, will also arrive in an AMG variant as well. And, we’ve got the new GLA coming too.

Mercedes-Benz India remains hopeful for a strong Q4 performance. It also aims to strengthen the business of pre-owned cars which, along with new car booking, merchandise and accessories purchasing, is part of the online sales platform. By 2025, the company expects a significant portion of its total sales to come from the digital medium.
