Saar: It is also Mercedes-Benz’ 31st facility in South India, taking the total up to 94 authorised dealerships across 45 cities across the country.
German carmaker today inaugurated one of the largest luxury car service facility in South India. The facility is named as Sundaram Motors and has been brought up in Coimbatore. It is Mercedes-Benz’ 10th authorised dealership in the state of Tamil Nadu and takes the nationwide count of such touchpoints to 94 across 45 cities. The carmaker claims that the new facility can service up to 5,000 cars per year using 26 service bays.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Santosh Iyer, vice president, customer services and corporate affairs, Mercedes-Benz India, said:
“Our focus on emerging Tier II markets like Coimbatore is going to play a significant role in our future growth story as we see these markets as key engines of growth. With 31 facilities across 13 cities, South India remains one of our key markets and will witness continued network expansion and focused growth. Our aim is to set the benchmark in vehicle ownership experience and be the Mercedes of Service for our customers.”
With the numbers shared by Iyer, it is plain to see how concentrated Mercedes-Benz is in the southern region of the country. Nearly 33 per cent of the German carmaker’s total 94 authorised outlets are in the south of India. What’s more, they are spread at an average of more than 2 dealerships in each of those 13 cities.
The newly opened dealership is the second in Coimbatore and Sundaram Motors’ eighth outlet for Mercedes-Benz in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. A total investment of Rs 16 crore was injected to erect the new premises, which was built in a time span of just 15 months. In terms of area, the second outlet in Coimbatore is spread across 80,000 sq. ft. Mercedes-Benz claims that the strategically located new facility will serve as a one-stop-shop destination for all customer service requirements in the region.
