Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz India reported a 265% growth in Q3 2020 over Q2. India’s just finished observing the auspicious period of Navratri and a festival that denotes the victory of good over evil, Dussehra. During those set days, the Indian arm of the German carmaker recorded great business. A total of 550 cars were delivered, mainly in the Northern part of the country. For reference, the company registered just 563 sales in all of Q2 2020.
The main business came from Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Punjab and Mumbai. Out of the 550 cars delivered, 175 went to customers across Delhi-NCR alone. Most of the lot comprised of popular Mercedes-Benz models, including the C-Class, E-Class, GLC, GLE and the GLS. While the GLE received an AMG variant a few weeks ago, the GLC will get one too early next month.
Here’s what Martin Schwenk, who is the managing director and CEO at Mercedes-Benz India, said about this latest stint:
The festive season this year has begun on a very strong note and we are glad to witness this positive customer sentiment. We are delighted to share the unlocking of the aspirations and celebrations by our customers who drove home a Mercedes this festive season. This impressive number of deliveries makes us confident of a good festive season and firmly underlines the trust and confidence that luxury car buyers have on Mercedes-Benz brand and products. This trust becomes even more pronounced in the context of today’s market conditions, which faces multiple challenges.
Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz also introduced the all-electric EQC. The model became India’s first luxury EV, sporting an on-road price of Rs 99.3 lakh. As per the company’s head honcho, more product introductions are in the pipeline during the last quarter of this year. Amongst them is the A-Class Limousine which will start its India innings in the A35 AMG form.
