Eyeing a Mercedes-Benz? Well, you must book one before January 15, 2021, to avoid paying noticeably more. The Indian arm of the German carmaker has confirmed that from the said date, prices of all models will increase by up to 5 per cent. There are two reasons behind this step: one, the weakening of the Indian National Rupee compared to Euros over the past six-to-seven months. And two, the rise in input costs. Mercedes-Benz India has decided to divert some of the costs to the customers to offset the impact.
So, what does that mean in terms of money? The brand has released an indicative price list, which says that the C-Class could get costlier by nearly Rs 2 lakh, whereas the AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe will demand approximately Rs 15 lakh more. The table below paints a tentative picture:
Here’s what Martin Schwenk, who is the managing director & CEO at Mercedes-Benz India, said in an official release:
At Mercedes-Benz we offer an enriched product portfolio with the latest features like Mmc technology and keep introducing new product enhancements in specific models. We have been operating a sustainable and future ready business; however, a necessary price correction is required to offset the continuous rise in input and operational costs. The new price range of our select vehicles will ensure the brand’s premium price positioning, assuring a sustainable growth both for the brand and our dealer partners, enabling continuation of the best-in-segment customer ownership experiences, equated with Mercedes-Benz.
Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz India introduced the S-Class Maestro Edition. Besides a host of bespoke styling elements, the luxury saloon also debuted the enhanced MMC (Mercedes Me Connect). Last year, we were supposed to get the new GLA and the A-Class Limousine. Neither of them came, courtesy of the infamous pandemic. In all probability, we’ll get them both by the end of the first half of 2021. And we’ll get more products, services as well as dealerships by the end of the year.
