Saar: It will make its first public appearance at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show.

It is here. It is finally here. Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its highly-anticipated A-Class Sedan. It will make its world premiere at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show, which is scheduled to run from April 25 to May 4, 2018. For the Chinese market, Mercedes-Benz will showcase the LWB (long wheelbase) iteration of the A-Class Sedan. So, it will actually be tagged as the A-Class L sedan.

As you’d expect, the A-Class Sedan is essentially the A-Class hatchback in a three-box design. But even in its sedan body, the A-Class has very short overhangs at either end. The low-slung silhouette of Mercedes’ entry-level sedan is accentuated by the diamond radiator grille, flat headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and a subtle use of chrome here and there. On the side, the wheels are available in sizes ranging from 16 inches to 19 inches. The combination of spilt taillamp enclosures with LED elements and the dual exhaust system gives the A-Class Sedan a sporty stance.

Mercedes-Benz will offer the A-Class Sedan in two configurations – standard and Sport – with the latter housing powerdomes on the hood. The A-Class L Sedan sits on a wheelbase that is 60mm longer than the hatchback its built on. In mathematical terms, that 2,789mm vs 2,729mm. The boot capacity is rated at 420 litres. In terms of length, width and height, the A-Class L Sedan clocks 4,609mm, 1,796mm and 1,460mm respectively.

Inside the cabin, the resemblance to the A-Class hatch continues. The dual screen cockpit design is a straight lift and so is the set of 5 turbine-shaped AC vents. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is of course multi-function, which can control everything from driver’s data, infotainment and the navigation. Speaking of which, the GPS comes mated to an augmented reality tech. Essentially, it helps to make the navigation experience a lot more intuitive. Mercedes’s MBUX multimedia system takes the centrestage, which has many aces up its sleeve. For instance, it is possible to connect two or more users simultaneously to the system and there’s voice control too.

For the Chinese market, Mercedes-Benz will offer a 1.33-litre petrol engine with outputs of 136PS and 163PS. At a later stage, a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine will join the list, which will be tuned to produce 190PS of power. Both engines will be offered with a 7-speed automatic transmission as standard.

China will be the first country to get the A-Class L Sedan. Later on, we expect Mercedes-Benz to ship or make it in other emerging markets around the globe as well. India too is on the radar.
