We normally don’t do teasers. But we are making an exception today. What you see here is the first, official glimpse of the Maruti Suzuki XL6. The company calls it a “premium MPV”. The said model will launch in India on August 21, 2019, and will be retailed via the Nexa range of premium dealerships. In essence, it is a six-seater, more rounded derivative of the Ertiga. What’s more, it will boast an all-black interior, captain seats in the second row and the same level of equipment as the MPV it is based on.

As far as the styling is concerned, the XL6 will have a more in-your-face front fascia. Check out the image of the front grille. Not only it is draped in chrome but also has a different layout to the Ertiga’s as well. Flanking it are very Audi-like headlamp enclosures which will boast LED technology and, as has become the norm these days, daytime running lights (DRLs). The modified front and rear bumpers will flaunt skid plates and the side profile will boast protective cladding. The alloys are expected to be different in design as well and the rear, which gets Volvo-like LED-powered taillamps, is expected to boast some extra chrome treatment as well. Single, as well as dual-tone colour options, will be on offer.

Maruti Suzuki will offer the XL6 with only a BSVI-compliant petrol engine. Which one? The mill that does duty in the Ertiga. The engine was recently upgraded to meet the stricter emission norms. And, as we already know, the engine’s fuel efficiency figure will be bolstered by a mild-hybrid system. For the record, it pumps out 103hp/138Nm in the Ertiga and those figures are likely to remain the same in the XL6. In the transmission department, both the 5-speed manual and the 4-speed automatic will be offered.

The company is yet to officially commence bookings for the XL6. However, if you want to jump the queue, get in touch with your nearest Nexa dealership and chances are that it’ll entertain your interest with a minimum token amount ranging between Rs 20,000-30,000.
