Are you an owner of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza? If yes, it is time to be proud of your choice. India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has announced that its sub-4 metre SUV has surpassed the 4-lakh sales mark and it has done so in less than three years – the fastest in its segment. As per the carmaker, the Vitara Brezza currently holds a market share of 44.1 per cent in its category of cars. The SUV crossed the 3-lakh sales mark in July last year.

It was the Ford EcoSport that ruled the sub-4 metre SUV segment before Maruti Suzuki introduced the Vitara Brezza in 2016. The latter not only brushed aside the former but also held the number one position in the UV segment in India. With a year-to-date sales growth of 7 per cent, the Vitara Brezza’s has averaged 14,675 sales every month. Drill it down further and you’ll notice that in a 30-day month, Maruti Suzuki sold 489 units of the Vitara Brezza every single day. That’s if all the dealerships worked every single day of the month.

Last year, Maruti Suzuki upped the charm of the Vitara Brezza by introducing the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT), or what the company calls Auto Gear Shift. It worked well for the SUV as the AMT-equipped variants have a cumulative penetration of about 20 per cent of the overall sales.

Ever since it was launched, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been available with just one engine option – a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel mill that produces 90PS/200Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. However, the latter is not available in the LDI variant. What’s really astonishing is that Maruti Suzuki never felt the need to add a petrol engine in the SUV’s portfolio.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is priced between Rs 7.67 lakh and Rs 10.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Features like dual airbags, ABD with EBD, high-speed warning alert, ISOFIX anchorages, reverse parking sensors and front seatbelt pre-tensioners with force limiters are part of the standard kit. In India, it competes with the likes of the Mahindra TUV300, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and, of course, the Ford EcoSport.
