Saar: Currently, Maruti Suzuki has plants in Gurugram, Manesar and Hansalpur.

On April 10, 2018, Maruti Suzuki announced that the India-made Swift is being exported to South Africa. The blockbuster of a product in India, the Swift became the first model to be exported which is being built at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. Along with that news, the company shared a plan of action for expansion of the same premises, where a second production line will be added by 2019 and a third is also being considered. With a capacity of rolling out 2.5 lakh units per annum each, Hansalpur will then produce 7.5 lakh cars.

Now though, according to a report published by Livemint, India’s largest carmaker will also make a fourth manufacturing plant. The location of the plant has not been finalised yet, but it will have a capacity of producing approximately 15 lakh units. Sources aware of the development reportedly added that the announcement of the fourth plant is expected around 2025. By that year, Maruti Suzuki is targeting to sell 30 lakh cars every year.

Maruti Suzuki Discloses Plans For Next Two Years

Once the Gujarat plant has been expanded to its full capacity and the fourth manufacturing plant is up and running (with full capacity), Maruti Suzuki will have a cumulative annual production capacity of 45 lakh vehicles. That’s vital because the company is targeting to sell 50 lakh vehicles per year by 2030. These production and sales targets have been set by the company to ensure that it retains 50 per cent market share in India.

One of the sources reportedly touched upon the production plans of the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan. It is currently being built in Manesar and the facelift, which is due in August this year, will continue to roll out of the same facility. In 2020, however, the production of the Ciaz will be shifted to Gujarat. That’s the year when Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to launch the second-generation of it.

The Indo-Japanese carmaker intends to invest in excess of Rs 10,000 crore in research and development. While most of the chunk is expected to flow towards the development of electric vehicles for India, for which the company joined hands with Toyota last year, a substantial amount is expected to go in launching more CNG and hybrid cars.
