Saar: Both petrol- and diesel-fed top-spec AMT variants attract a premium of Rs 47,000 over their manual counterparts.
Maruti Suzuki has launched AMT-equipped variants of the Swift hatchback in the top-spec Z+ trims. In the company’s world, they are dubbed as the ZXi+ AGS and ZDi+ AGS. While the former is priced at Rs 7.76 lakh, the latter carries a price tag of Rs 8.76 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Compared to the manual Z+ variants, the AMT-equipped ones are Rs 47,000 dearer. However, if you compare the prices of the Z+ AGS (Auto Gear Shift) variants to those of Z AGS variants, the price difference shoots up to Rs 80,000.
Apart from the added convenience of the two-pedal setup, the new variants also get a couple of additional features – gear position indicator (replacing the gear shift indicator) in the instrument panel and a driver side footrest. The rest of the recipe remains unchanged.
Here’s what R. S. Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., said in a press release:
“Swift has always scored high on customers’ expectations. With the latest evolution, the all-new Swift has reached the next level of customer delight. AGS has been very well appreciated by our Swift customers. We had customer feedback seeking the convenience of AGS in the high-selling top-end variants. Accordingly, we are now offering AGS in the top-end ZXi+ and ZDi+ variants. This will further strengthen the brand Swift and enhance the popularity of Maruti Suzuki’s acclaimed two-pedal technology.”
Adding the AMT (automated manual transmission) option in the fully-loaded variants is surely a welcome move. Customers will finally be able to get the added convenience of an automatic transmission along with features like LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, reverse parking camera, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and precision cut 15-inch alloy wheels.
The AMT unit has five forward speeds and one reverse. In the Maruti Suzuki Swift, it comes mated to a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. While the smaller engine puts out 83PS/113Nm and is good enough to return a mileage of 22kmpl, the Fiat-sourced diesel mill produces 75PS/190Nm and can return up to 28.4kmpl.
