Maruti Suzuki Sells 3 Lakh AMT-Equipped Models In Four Years
Saar: The company aims to sell 2 lakh AMT-equipped models during the ongoing fiscal year.
When it comes to Maruti Suzuki, the numbers game is always big. This time around, India’s largest carmaker has announced that it has sold over 3 lakh AMT-equipped models since 2014. The first Maruti Suzuki model to come with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) or what the company calls AGS (Auto Gear Shift) was the Celerio hatchback.
Over the years, Maruti Suzuki injected AGS-equipped variants in several of its models. The list includes Alto K10, WagonR, Swift, Ignis and the Dzire. Very recently, Maruti Suzuki did the same with its popular SUV, the Vitara Brezza.

Upon achieving this sales milestone, R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, said:
“At Maruti Suzuki, we believe in providing our customers with the best of technology and convenience. The revolutionary Auto Gear Shift technology is one such innovation that offers comfort and ease of driving to the customers with no compromise on fuel efficiency. It has achieved wide acceptance among customers. Crossing 3-lakh retail sales mark within five years of its introduction is a reflection of the success and consent of the customers for the two-pedal technology. With enhanced awareness and deeper penetration, we aim to sell over 2 lakh cars with AGS in 2018-19.”
Maruti Suzuki Ranked Ninth Amongst World’s Top Ten Most Valuable Car Brands
Woah! Now that is what you might call an ambitious target. But going by the sales trend of the AGS-equipped variants across the model range, the company has seen the number triple since the 2014-15 fiscal. Actually, it was inevitable. The two-pedal setup not only adds to the convenience factor for drivers but also returns comparable fuel-efficiency figures to those of old-school manual transmissions.
Currently, AMT variants make 43 per cent of total Celerio sales. For Dzire and Ignis, the same figure stands at 17 per cent and 28 per cent respectively.
