Maruti Suzuki Recalls 52,686 Units Of New Swift And Baleno
Saar: The company wants to inspect for a possible fault in the brake vacuum hose for Swifts and Balenos built between December 1, 2017, and March 16, 2018.
Maruti Suzuki has initiated a voluntary recall for two of its most popular products – the new Swift and the Baleno. A total of 52,686 units of the duo manufactured between December 1, 2017, and March 16, 2018, will be inspected for a possible fault in the brake vacuum hose. We’re aren’t going to bore you by defining what that is. Let’s just put it this way, it is related to the braking capability of the car. In short, it could lead to a catastrophe without any warning.
As always, the entire process of inspection, rectification and replacement will be done free of cost. Maruti Suzuki confirmed that starting May 14, 2018, its authorised dealers (Arena for Swift and Nexa for Baleno) will start contacting the owners of the affected cars to take an appointment. Customers can themselves check whether their car is affected or not by clicking here and entering their vehicle’s chassis number. For the uninitiated, you don’t need to undo your car to find the embossed chassis number. It is always part of the vehicle invoice and the vehicle registration documents. For these cars, it will start with the letters MBH, followed by a 14-character alpha-numeric number.

According to a recent report, over 1.1 lakh customers are waiting for delivery of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, Baleno, Vitara Brezza or the Dzire. That said, Maruti Suzuki has been making use of its Gujarat plant more effectively to produce more of the above-mentioned models and reduce the waiting periods. The company plans to upgrade the Gujarat plant and add more production lines in the near future. The current production capacity is 2.5 lakh cars per annum but that is destined to go up to 5.0 lakh units per year by 2019.
