Saar: It becomes the first Indian automotive brand to the enter the top ten list compiled by Brandz.
A thirteen-year-old company called Brandz has released its list of top ten most valuable car brands in the world. India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, bagged the ninth position, pipping Volkswagen (just the brand and not the entire automotive group). As per Brandz, which is the world’s largest brand equity platform, Maruti Suzuki is valued at 6,375 million USD, which is 389 million USD more than the Beetle-maker.
As per the survey, Maruti Suzuki changed its image by introducing a range of premium dealerships called NEXA. These met the aspirations of the rising middle class in India, particularly young people. To further enhance its appeal to younger customers, Maruti Suzuki also forayed into digital platforms for its sales and services for both its premium and mid-market models. It is the first time ever that an Indian carmaker, though partially, has entered the top ten list of most valuable carmakers in the world.

Brandz defines the value proposition of the car brands in three aspects – Meaningful, Different and Salient. Brandz says that the overall brand equity of Maruti Suzuki reflects great brand delivery. However, it was pipped by Tesla, the American electric carmaker, which ranked eighth with a value of 9,415 million USD. In fact, Tesla’s brand value grew by 60 per cent in 2018 over the last year. No other carmaker in the top-ten list even reached double figures in the same aspect.
At a brand value of 29,987 million USD, Toyota topped the chart sixth year in a row. At rank two, it was Mercedes-Benz with a brand value worth 25,684 million USD and BMW took the third position at 25,624 million USD. The top three brands were followed by Ford, Honda, Nissan and Audi, bagging the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.
