In a bid to keep the Eeco compliant with the stricter safety norms coming in later this year, Maruti Suzuki has updated its recipe. The versatile van now gets ABS with EBD, speed alert system, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminder for front seats and driver’s side front airbag as standard. Because of the added kit, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco is now slightly pricier than before. The price list starts at Rs 3.52 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 6.54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Apart from the added list of safety features, the Eeco has received no other changes. As before, it is available with or without AC and in 5- or seven-seat configuration. The list of iterations also includes cargo and an ambulance, which is known as the Eeco Care and is the most expensive of the lot.
Powering the Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which produces 73PS/101Nm. The company also offers a factory-fitted CNG kit and when that is being fed to the engine, the power and torque figures drop to 63PS and 85Nm, respectively. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual transmission which feeds the power to the rear wheels. Maruti Suzuki claims that the Eeco can return 15.37kmpl and 21.94km/kg on petrol and CNG, respectively.
As you’d expect from a utilitarian product, the Eeco doesn’t score high on creature comforts. As mentioned above, AC isn’t part of the standard kit and nor are the second-row headrests and pockets behind the front seats. The list of standard features includes a heater, a 12-volt accessory socket, manual headlamp levelling, a trip computer and front and rear cabin lamps.
